Mobile measurement campaigns, driving or on foot, with GPS Positioning
The NAVIGATOR DMB has been designed to perform mobile measurement campaigns for DMB networks. This handheld equipment can be used in a vehicle, or on foot (indoor or outdoor).
The campaign can be dedicated to a single channel (frequency) or for multiple channels at the same time.
The main measurement functions are the following:
- Real time measurements and display of RF and MPEG data analysis.
- Internal recording of measurement data on the NAVIGATOR DMB
- Automatic GPS position display and recording on the NAVIGATOR DMB equipment
- Manual position input capability (in case of no GPS reception or for additional notes)
- Mapping display of the measurement data. Click here to see an example of data display in Google Earth.
Measured RF parameters
Thanks to its RF input, Navigator DAB/DMB measures the following parameters:
- RF level (sensibility: better than -90 dBm)
- SNR (Signal Noise ratio)
- BER
- FIC error rate
- MSC error rate
- Impulse response (SFN)
Measured MPEG parameters
Navigator DAB/DMB can also check the folowing MPEG parameters:
- ETI Frame Analysis
- FIC Analysis
- MCI & SI Analysis
- FIG Analysis
- Sub-Channel Analysis
- MSC Analysis
- Audio Frame Analysis
- DMB Audio Data (PAD, X-PAD) Analysis
- DMB Stream Data Analysis
- Packet, Service, PSI section, PCR, TS Error (ETR 290)
Scanning of the DMB band
The NAVIGATOR DMB can perform a scan on the frequency band to automatically detect the available multiplex channels.
Import / export of data
Data import (coming soon): Capability to connect and receive a signal from a DMB mobile phone or handset.
This feature will allow the user to confirm the performance of the handset or to simulate the mobile reception of the end user. (For more information please contact us).
Data export: The recorded measurement data can be exported as a CSV file (Excel compatible or to radio communication planning software (like ATDI, LStelcom…) in order to compare the predicted coverage with a measurement data obtained in a real world environment.
You can also export data in Google Earth format, click here to see an example.
Campaign analysis with Goldeneye
Campaign representation
- During a campaign, all the measurements (with their GPS position, if available) are logged and stored on the internal hard drive. The campaign file containing all this data can then be downloaded onto a PC and opened with Goldeneye.
- Goldeneye creates a geographical representation of the campaign with a different color for each level value (or field strength). Clicking on a point, you get information such as the modulation parameters and the speed.
- In the “Superimposed” tab, Goldeneye plots level curves. If the campaign contains data from several multiplexes, the curves can be superimposed for easy comparison.
- All details of each measurement point can be found in the measurement table (GPS position, SNR, BER, …)
Channel Impulse Response logging
In addition to the measurements, the NAVIGATOR DMB also logs the channel impulse response in the campaign file.
Clicking on a measurement point, you see the all the peaks that were detected, with their delay and level.
Data export
The measurement data can be exported to Google Earth, MapPoint, MapInfo, ATDI …
