Mobile measurement

The NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH has been designed to perform mobile measurement campaigns for DVB-T, DVB-H and DVB-SH networks. This portable equipment can be used either moving in a vehicle at normal speed or by a pedestrian (indoor or outdoor).

The campaign can be dedicated to a single channel (frequency) or for multiple channels at the same time.

In mobile measurement mode, NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH performs:
  • Real time measurements with multiple values displayed simultaneously
  • Recording of measurement data on the internal hard disk
  • Automatic GPS position logging.
  • Campaign data display and analysis

Thanks to its hybrid receiver, the NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH is the perfect tool for DVB-T, DVB-H and DVB-SH measurement campaigns. Connected to an external GPS receiver (supplied), the unit automatically logs all the measurements and their position on the internal hard disk.

Once the campaign is finished, all measurements can be retrieved and analyzed thanks to the DVB Reader software.


Metering

The NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH includes a high quality demodulator for accurate DVB-SH metering.

Through the PC software, many DVB-SH RF parameters can be measured including the input level, the error rates and the MER. In addition, the unit displays the realtime constellation diagram, spectrum analysis and channel impulse response. All the measurements necessary  for the commissioning and adjustment of a new transmitter.

MPEG data is also decoded and thoroughly analyzed via the PC software in real time. Transport stream compliance can be confirmed easily, using the real time error display. Specific DVB-SH parameters are also part of the analysis, such as SHIP, HDD and MPE IFEC. In depth analysis of the tables can also be performed using the powerful Expert Mode, based on recorded transport stream data.

NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH is also a powerful metering unit for DVB-SH. All the important parameters are measured and displayed in user friendly PC software with very high level of accuracy. 

Thanks to the constellation and spectrum display, NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH can be used for laboratory, terrestrial repeater prototype integration and production line testing.


Band scaning


The NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH can perform a scan on the frequency band to automatically detect the available multiplex channels.
On each multiplex, a specific Audio and Video PID (Packet Identity) can be selected to view the content.


Mobile testing device

This feature allows Mobile TV operators to test and validate the capabilities of new phones. Engineers can connect via USB to the cell phones they want to test and perform a mobile campaign. The NAVIGATOR DVB evaluates the performance of the RF part of the device and is able to compare it with the calibrated receiver of the measurement equipment. Audemat is working on validation of DVB-H cell phones from manufacturers such as Sagem, Sony Ericson, Nokia and others…

 

Reference design


This feature (In development) allows testing and validation of new devices using DVB-H chip sets. By connecting through the USB port on the front panel, and using a reference design provided by chip set manufacturers, the R&D team can perform real world measurements and make sure their product is in compliance with the performance goals. Audemat is working with chip set manufactures such as DIBCOM, SYDSA and SIANO.


Content visualization

The audio and video content can be presented simultaneously with the real time measurements on the NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH screen.

The content can also be recorded in addition to the measurements being made. The recording can include a specific Video and Audio PID or the entire selected multiplex channel.

Map representation



A map display of the measurement campaign can be generated using the recorded GPS positions.

The measurement campaign carried out with the NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH will be shown on MapPoint for reporting. Utility software to visualize on MapInfo will also be supplied.
Scanned maps or drawings can be imported into the NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH for indoor campaigns or for areas not covered by MapPoint or MapInfo software.

Data exporT TO SIMULATION SOFTWARE


This feature is designed to allow users to export their mobile campaign results to any coverage simulation software. Automatic export is already available for ATDI and LS TELCOM and further developments are expected with other players such as FORSK and others…


Automatic reports


The application software can generate automatic measurement reports. The user can modify the format of these reports; the software offers a standard model with most of the results and also some graphical representations essential for a complete DVB broadcast measurement analysis.
This report uses advanced Microsoft Word™ functions and can be read with any compatible program. The NAVIGATOR DVB-T/H/SH measurement data contained in the report cannot be modified by the user.
The report also shows additional information like serial number, revision number, date of calibration.


Quality analyzer


When the mobile measurement campaign is finished, the DVB Reader software can automatically perform a quality analysis: all the critical parameters are compared to standardized values and an overall quality indicator is generated (Good, Average, Bad).
These indicators can also be displayed on a map, so that users can evaluate instantaneously their coverage quality.
