NAVIGATOR 100 FM

I have found a +20dB attenuator delivered with the FM Navigator, when should I use it?
The FM Navigator has a highly sensitive front end. When you are close to a transmitter site (less than 2km for example) we advise you to use the RF attenuator delivered with the product. You will have better performance and the input RF front end stage won't be saturated by heavy RF signals.
Can I put the Flash Card in my PC to read it? (only Navigator 100)
The answer is NO. Flash cards are intended to be plug and play; but unfortunately, dedicated drivers are necessary for each type of PC. There are no generic drivers for Intel Flash cards, and installing one of the cards from the Navigator 100 in a PC Flash card slot may damage it permanently!
I try to communicate with the FM Navigator through its serial port by using an ASCII terminal, I get no answer, what could the problem be?
Check if you are using the right com port of your PC. Also if you are using a USB-to-RS232 converter, try unplugging and reconnecting it. Disable all control signal checks, the FM Navigator does not use RS232 control signals. There are 3 cases where the Navigator 100 serial port is disabled:

  • during measurement campaigns
  • when the front panel interface is in the CGN (campaign) menu
  • when the front panel interface is in the GPS menu
I do not get any GPS information in the GPS menu of my Navigator 100, what can be the problem?
The Trimble GPS receiver takes some times up to a 15 minutes to initialize its satellite table. That could  be the reason why satellites are not indicated as soon as you have connected the antenna on your receiver.
Warning : GPS works outside, but not inside buildings! When you are in canyons or narrow streets, without much view on the sky, do not expect to get good satellite reception! Also, check your GPS antenna cable, to make sure it hasn’t been damaged by closing in a car door.
What are the units of the GPS Longitude and GPS Latitude shown in the campaign result file?
Decimal degrees - please refer to the technical manual page 29. The manual can be downloaded here:
How can I select the measurement I want to perform during a campaign, and how can I unselect others?
In the design philosophy of the Navigator 100, we have set 2 modes. One mode is to make measurements as the vehicle is moving (fast mode), the other one suitable for more detailed measurements from a fixed position (slow mode).

Depending of the mode a certain number of parameters are sampled and then stored on the flash card. We do not decide for the user, in the field they are able to select and unselect one measurement type or another because it's better to get all the parameters and then remove the unwanted data from the campaign file later using Excel or a similar program.

In slow mode there are more than 40 parameters per measurement and it would be exhausting for the user (who may not be a technician) to configure whether or not to store each of the 40 parameters while setting up the campaign.

More than often it's better to have all the data on a signal and then remove parameters that may not be relevant for a report.
How can I sort out, in a measurement campaign the measurement points which are related to a known frequency or PI code and remove the others?
Yes Quite easily... in fact the answer is in FAQ#6 of this FAQ: do the measurement on the frequency, fast or slow mode and then import the campaign file into Excel. Sort the Excel file result by frequency or PI code and then remove the lines which do not interest you. You can also filter the import to MapPoint by frequency or PI code using the  DLL import tool for Navigator campaigns.
I do not want the FM Navigator to make sample every second but every kilometer... how can I do that?
Same kind of answer is in FAQ#6 of this FAQ. Import the campaign file into Excel and, from the columns "latitude" and "longitude" it's easy math to extract the distance between 2 points. Another possibility is to average  (through Excel)  the points which have been measured within a 1 kilometer distance.
How can I get a field measurement instead of a level measurement?
By applying the provided antenna calibration to the recorded measurements.
In a slow mode campaign, I see on the Excel file that I can have the record of all of the different AF pairs and all of the different EON groups received during the time the measurement was taken... That's super, but how can I display these information in clear text?
We are good preparing a Visual Basic Macro to generate an HTML file corresponding to a selected line of information, then in the HTML file you will have a nice display of all the parameters which are put on these quite unreadable Excel lines!
I am involved in sending data through the Digiplexer and recovering this data through the Navigator 100. I understand that an ASCII terminal should be used to view which data are received, but where can I view the ASCII terminal in the FM Explorer software?
The FM Explorer software doesn't allow display of data but has a function for saving DARC data into a file: click on the button with red circle on top of the window while in the DARC submenu. The ASCII RDS data can be viewed using the Explorer software or a terminal program connected to the Navigator.
When I’m decoding A1 type DARC frames the 12 real time information blocks seem to be transmitted at the wrong time. Why?
The Navigator 100 will in fact output these 12 information blocks before the rest of the corresponding frame data blocks because the Navigator 100 waits for the vertical correction for the standard information blocks. Unfortunately a buffer swap at a critical moment means that some of the 12 information blocks may correspond to the wrong frame. The problem exists in Navigator firmware versions up to 9, but has been corrected in version A.
Why can’t I import data from Navigator 100 in MapPoint?
The link between Map Point 2004 and the Navigator 100 DLL is broken.

Open Map Point, open 'Tools' menu, and click on 'COM Add-ins'. If the Aztec Navigation add-in is not in the list, click on 'Add' and select the 'Az100cgn.dll' file, in the FM Explorer directory which is generally C:/Fmnet/FM_Explo or C:/Program Files/Audemat-Aztec/FM_Explo (Map Point utilities must be installed).
